Accomplishments

  1. Infrastructure Improvement – In 2017, Sonny lead the charge with fellow council members and community members to create The Village Vision. The resulting plan highlighted the need for the city to secure additional funding for infrastructure improvements. Sonny then championed the need for the city’s first ever bond packages to improve city streets and parks. These propositions were approved by an overwhelming majority in January 2018. Projects completed or underway as a result of this work are (click here for a map):
    1. Britton Road reconstruction and new multi-path from Pennsylvania Avenue to May Avenue.
    2. Residential Road Resurfacing.
    3. Resurfacing of Britton Road between Waverly Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue, and Hefner Road between Pennsylvania Avenue and the Lake Hefner Parkway.
    4. Improvements to every park in The Village.
    5. Improved drainage along Northland Road and Sunrise Boulevard.
    6. Residential Sidewalks (will begin construction 2020/2021).
    7. Signal upgrades at Britton/Penn, Ridgview/Britton, and Lakeside/May (will be completed 2020).
  2. Long-Term Vision – The creation of two vital documents for The Village’s future commercial development and park improvements where championed by Sonny, The Village Vision and The Village Parks Plan.
  3. Civic Park – Sonny worked closely with the leadership at Love’s Travel Stops corporate headquarters and the city council to create a new TIF district as a result of Love’s expanding their corporate campus. Once complete, the new civic area between city hall and the Love’s campus will feature a new park which will play host to city festivals, a dog park, walking and bike trails, and improvements to the park areas outside of The Village Library.
  4. Ordinances – Along with the council, Sonny has lead and advocated for these improvements to The Village’s City Code:
    1. Commercial Building Design Guidelines
    2. Commercial Landscaping Guidelines
    3. Vital changes to the vicious dog codes, giving our municipal judge more latitude in sentencing and holding owners of dogs more accountable.
    4. Restrictions on Boats, RVs and Trailers in residential driveways.
    5. Reduction of Marijuana Possession Fines
