- Strengthen The Village – As The Village continues to reopen and move forward from the shutdown, proven leadership is critical for the city’s success. I will continue to work hand in hand with fellow Council Members, city staff, business owners, and community stakeholders to ensure The Village is stronger and more prepared.
- New Bond Package – When the 2018 GO Bond projects (click here for more information) are completed, The Village will need to consider a new GO Bond Package to continue the momentum. Sonny will make this a top priority to begin exploratory work on possible project idea for the package to be passed by voters as early as 2022. Possible project ideas include:
- Drainage improvements
- Continued resurfacing of residential streets
- Complete The Village Parks Plan
- Improve lighting in residential areas
- Upgrades to signal lights at May/Britton, May/Hefner, and May/Penn
- Completion of new Civic Park near City Hall, including dog park
- Continued addition of sidewalks throughout city
- Addition of city park south of Britton Road
- Economic Development– Sonny is excited to see the recent growth of new businesses choosing to locate in The Village. Looking to the future, Sonny will work with city leaders to create an economic development plan that would best utilize existing space while looking at retail corridors to strengthen them.
- Create A Destination – Using The Village Vision as a guide, Sonny will seek to create ways for The Village to be set apart from its surrounding neighbors. To do this, he encourages increased walkability, beautification and branding.
- Public Safety – One of the biggest strengths for The Village is its outstanding first responders. Sonny is committed to The Village Fire and Police Departments ensuring their needs are met. This includes the purchase of new, life-saving equipment, vehicles and ensuring their compensation is competitive. He is committed to supporting our exceptional first responders.
- Improved Communication from City Hall – The Village must find better and more modern ways to improve communication with residents and businesses.
- Public Transportation – The Village has no direct access to public transportation, all Embark bus lines that approach the city do not cross its boarders. Sonny will continue to work with the leaders at Embark and fellow council members to find a sensible, cost-efficient way to bring public transportation to the of The Village so residents have a reliable transportation option and those who live outside of city wishing to come shop and work here may do so.
Looking to the horizon, Sonny knows the future is bright for The Village. He has worked for the past five years with city leaders to generate the momentum we are seeing today. With these relationships and his unique ability to foster new ones, Sonny will no doubt continue to improve our city. He will work to improve infrastructure and create new public spaces with the use of existing revenue and strategically plan for its economic growth while ensuring that its neighborhoods stay strong and safe.
